Do Something Today That Your Future Self Will Thank You For

Think about that for a moment.  What does that mean to you?

For me, it means not reaching for the donuts at the office… even if they are chocolate.  It also means not hitting snooze and getting my work out done for the day – no excuses!  Ironically, this statement is also what motivated me to carve out some time to write and post today.

What would your future self thank you for?  What can you change today to ensure that you will step into that future image of your healthier, happier and most successful self?

Have you visualized her yet?  I have.  Funny enough, my future self has short hair.  It’s been decades since I’ve had short hair! She has glowing skin and a strong, lean body which is why I said no to the donuts yesterday and yes to the workout this morning.  My future self is not chowing down on Entenmann’s – I can tell you that much.

She’s wearing shorts which is something I’m often reluctant to do because I don’t love my legs.  Hers are great but she also doesn’t really care what they look like or what others might think. She’s comfortable in her own skin.

As my future self approaches me, I see she’s in hiking boots and surrounded by lush greenery with mountains in the distance.  I love hiking although I’ve never bothered to invest in proper attire.

Note to Present Self: Invest in hiking boots. Hike more often.

Her eyes are bright and she greets me with a kind smile.  She exudes peace.

My future self has a name too.  Don’t laugh.  It’s Savory.  “I know!” (I exclaim in my best Monica voice)   What kind of name is that!? To get some clarity on why my future self is named Savory, I decided to look up the definition.  The most appropriate definitions I could find (since I am not a food) are as follows:
  • pleasant, agreeable, attractive, etc.
  • morally acceptable; respectable

The food definition includes “spicy and flavorful without being sweet”.  I’m okay with this definition too. My future self, Savory-- if you will, is complex.  She’s a lot of different things all rolled into one.  Her experiences (both positive and negative) and her choices (both good and bad) have made her who she is – which is mostly good with a side of spicy.

I like my future self.  I look forward to becoming her and rocking a pair of shorts.  Sooner rather than later.
