Hi Herd,
We were saddened to recently learn that Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust lost her battle to breast cancer on April 12th at the age of 83.

For those of you not familiar with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, it was founded by Ms. Sheldrick in honor of her late husband and is today the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world.  To learn more about her work at DSWT please click here.

Cher and I formed Inspired Elephant for a number of awesome reasons but we NAMED it Inspired Elephant because we love and are inspired by these gentle and iconic creatures.  Their innate wisdom, capacity to love and support one another are exactly what we aspire for our Herd. They are near and dear to the very soul of this company.

In 2016, my better half, knowing how elephant-obsessed I am, gave me THE BEST gift of fostering a baby elephant at DSWT.  To this day, I still receive updates on our baby, Sana Sana. In Swahili, her name means Very Much.  In Spanish, it means Heal.  Heal Very Much.  I remember thinking at the time, “Oh my God. How appropriate because that’s exactly what her heart will do in the care of her new family at DSWT."

Isn’t she beautiful???

In honor of and in gratitude for all the work Ms. Sheldrick has done, we at Inspired Elephant have made a donation to carry on her legacy.  It seemed fitting and felt so right that this cause would be our first official donation as a company.

Won’t you please consider donating here?  You can either make a one-time donation or foster an orphaned baby elephant. You can even specify where your donation goes such as anti-poaching efforts, mobile vet units or water projects.  DSWT also has community outreach programs so your dollars could help buy desks for school children in Kenya.

You can also donate in honor of someone.  Tell you what. If you make a donation in honor of Inspired Elephant, we will send an additional contribution to DSWT.  We will do this for every donation made in Inspired Elephant's name from now through May 1, 2018 and will report back to you on how much our Herd contributed.  Please be sure to include our email address, theherd@inspiredelephant.com, when making the donation so we know when to donate.  Additionally, please leave us a comment below to tell us you’re in and/or share it on social media. Your support of this campaign may help inspire someone else to act, too.

Your donation doesn’t have to be much.  Every little bit will help prevent these beautiful creatures from becoming extinct.  In fact, a 2017 report by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species found that while elephant poaching has gradually declined, Eastern Africa has lost about half of its elephant population in the past decade.  They need our help!  Please consider making a small contribution today.

On behalf of Inspired Elephant, we thank you for being a part of Our Herd and helping us to make a difference in the world.

With much love and appreciation,

Carolyn & Cher
