Do you trust your first impression of someone you meet? From experience I have learned that first impressions can be wrong. Truth be told, two of my best friends (who after 25+ years of friendship I consider them sisters) thought I was kind of a bitch the first time we met. So glad they got past that first impression! Most people want to make a good first impression, so they play out a script (good or bad) depending on the audience or situation. But most times they are the opposite or maybe some where more in the middle from who they presented. |
First impressions can leave us with a feeling of how we think about someone, but that is usually a very superficial presentation. To really know how we feel we must work on getting beneath the surface and finding out more about them.
This tendency to make initial judgments, positive or negative, can prevent us from making some great connections or have us enduring relationships much longer than we should.
I invite you to look past your first encounters. Because, it takes more than first impressions to get true insight into a person.
We are all bigger and more complicated then one single moment in time.
Has your first impression ever been wrong? Would love to hear about it in the comments below.
