Hi Herd - It’s Cher here and wanted to share some personal thoughts to kick off this week.
I’d been feeling a bit ‘ugh’ recently. I don’t know what triggered it, and because of that, I couldn’t get my head around it. This weekend it just felt like my motivation depleted. I had zero drive to accomplish or tackle anything. I felt tired, but I hadn’t even done anything to make myself tired. My brain was just full of frustration and exhaustion. I was trying hard to inspire myself by meeting up with friends, spending time with family, organizing the house, binging on Pinterest ideas… literally ANYTHING to try and get me back from my funk. But here was Monday morning and still feeling ‘Blah’.
Now here was Monday morning and working from home it’s easy to get stuck in your own head even more. There is no water-cooler banter or co-workers to snap you out of your funk, it’s up to you to get it together. So, I spent some time over my AM coffee to try and establish what is causing my low mood, when it dawned on me that I was doing the same old comparison trick, ‘they’re always doing more than me’, ‘they are more organized, more stylish, more valued, more calm, more…” What in the past would have been simply passing thoughts were now actually starting to take serious space in my head.
Isn’t it crazy that we can hear 10 positive things, but if we hear 1 negative thing, that’s the one that sticks with us?
After a lengthy chat with myself, Lily the KB pup and a very well-timed message from a good friend I was finally able to pinpoint what was going on in my head. And as lunch time rolled around I am able to accept that, yes, I was in a shitty mood, in a shitty place, but most importantly – I have the power to address it and move on. Bring on a good week!
If you’re reading this and are also having a not so good moment, just know that you are not alone. Sometimes just owning it is all it takes to move past it. And, if you’re starting this week in a good space ready to take on the world please share a positive thought with others…you may be the reason someone moves past their funk.
Here’s to moving beyond the ‘funk’.
