Combativeness. Judgment. Divisiveness. Negativity. Doom and gloom.
Sound familiar? It's not just at the debates. It's in our communities. It may even be in your own home.
It's pervasive, and so tempting to engage, to defend, or even attack. But really, where does that get us aside from frustration and perhaps, validation from others who share the same opinion?
We'd like to explore a different approach. One that starts within. No validation needed, with no sides to take.
How about we make loving kindness our goal?
We are not defending our points, nor pointing out another's mistakes or transgressions. This is just about us. About being who we naturally are.
It starts with building Compassion (with a capital C because it is so critical!) for ourselves and others. We are, after all, connected (another important C word!).
You see, if we can show ourselves some love, kindness, forgiveness, and understanding, we'll hold others in the same light. But we have to begin within. Cultivating and spreading loving kindness is an inside job.
You'll feel lighter. More hopeful. Different. Those around you will detect the shift in your energy, and they will respond differently to you. They too, will be kinder and softer.
Consider this: Creating peace - even if it's just within - is a form of activism. Your shift in energy will positively affect how people respond to you, and so on. We can make loving kindness a movement.
If all the negativity leaves you feeling helpless, then intentionally cultivating loving kindness is one surefire way to feel empowered and to make a difference.
Stay tuned for our next blog post which will offer concrete tips and resources.
